My NIFES Story…

The very first day, I stepped my feet on campus as a new student in 2017, I joined NIFES and till date I remain what many people call a NIFESian. How did I join NIFES you may ask?

After, I graduated from secondary school; my parents sat me down to have a conversation about what fellowship I was to join when I got to campus. They obviously had a particular fellowship in mind which I wasn’t exactly thrilled to join. Somewhere in the recess of my mind, I wanted God to actually lead me. Prior to that, I had attended a camp meeting for teenagers at the NIFES camp in Kwalli although it was organized by a different organisation entirely, I was intrigued by the acronym on the signpost (NIFES) and I asked what is NIFES?

I didn’t get my answer until about three years later when I entered the university. The first time, my parents had dropped me in the hostel to settle in. As I unpacked, a beautiful lady (Miss. Comfort George ) from the room adjacent to mine and who was a friend to my roommate came to my room. Just before she left, she turned to me and said, “I would like to invite you to join my fellowship, It’s called NIFES…”. That evening, which was a Thursday, I followed her for intercessory prayer at the pavilion of my school. It was a most memorable experience as I was welcomed warmly after a beautiful session of communion with God. It was quite dark, so I didn’t quite catch the faces of many of the people there.

The following day, as I walked to lectures, an endearing lady stopped me to say hello and introduced herself as Nkemakonam Miriam . Apparently, she had picked my face last night at the intercessory meeting. Not long after, I rode with a lecturer (Mr. Solomon Idakwoji ) who would later become my mentor and I remember him saying to me emphatically, “I recommend that you join the Nigeria Fellowship of Evangelical Students during your stay on campus”. That was the third sign, that God indeed wanted me there and soon it became home for me.

What do I love the most about NIFES? There is quite a number of great stuff about NIFES. So many that they are inexhaustible. One major thing, I loved was the Bible study session, NIFES employed the Inductive Bible Study (IBS) method mostly alongside the Manuscript Bible Study (MBS) and Expository Bible Study (EBS) and each time I felt like I was reading the scripture afresh as I always received new insights. I remember sitting under the teaching of Uncle Shorka Joel and many others who shaped my life and blessed me a great deal.
Another thing I loved was the power packed conferences, It gave students the avenue to travel, connect and grow. Every time, I attended a conference, it was always a memorable experience. I would come back with my jotter brimming with life changing lessons and the resource persons were always excellent. I would learn lessons that weren’t talked about in everyday church but were essential for living. The joy of also connecting with the other 7oo hundred who had not bowed their heads to Baal was also fun aside, from the luxury of visiting different cities and campuses.

One more exciting thing was the Discipleship Cell group, which offered an interactive fellowship outside the conventional fellowship meetings. We would feast and talk about different life issues and have a lovely moment in God’s presence in people’s homes. I remember that my dear friend (Miss. Sabo Blessing ) and I were the last-borns of our DCG group that year.
I have so many precious memories created in NIFES! It was the firing oven, instrumental to my making. At some point in school, if I wasn’t in class, hostel or church, you could only find me in NIFES! I love NIFES and I am proud to be part of something great!

To be continued…

Oh Nifes, Oh Nifes that brings good tidings…….

Nifes was a pillar for me in school and still is, the excitement of being part of a wonderful family was always reeling, it was a place i felt comfortable because of the great people i met there. I got to taste God’s awesomeness through Nifes, i joined Nifes in 100l, because of the free lunch they offered during year 1 orientation, and like play like play, i attended and was captured, the food wasn’t just the driving force again, i got to taste God’s faithfulness and i am so happy i did because Nifes shaped me. I love Nifes so much
God bless Nifes always. Amen.

NIFES MY NIFES ❣️❣️

like I fondly call it, it is NIFES and it is my NIFES. I joined NIFES in my 100l and knowing God through NIFES is the best thing that will ever happen to me. Of course, I came into school to be a ‘free’ girl but fortunately for me I got a room just beside the NIFES secretariat and they fished me into NIFES 😁😁. At this point all I can is that it’s not a coincidence I got a room beside the sec and also joined the fellowship. It was all in God’s plan for my life. NIFES holds discipleship very key and I am a product of that vision.

Thank you for the impact, I pray for growth

NIFES has impacted my life through cardinal programs like Bible study week, LTC, EDC and lots more. They’ve helped to broaden my knowledge and change my perspective of Bible study. Also being a leader has helped to shape and it has made me view service from a different angle. NIFES has also blessed me with friends who have become family. I’m grateful for the love

Although I had received Christ in secondary school, I had backslidden when I gained admission into the University. I knew about NIFES from church brethren and school mates who had gained admission into higher institutions before I did. Then I came face to face with the love of Christ again in NIFES.
God used the ministry of NIFES to reassure me that His love never left me. He did not only call me back into faith but He affirmed His love by using me in a few more capacities in the ministry of NIFES. I have come to learn, above all else, the joy and rewards of serving God by serving His people. I also experienced and still experience a foretaste of a united church without denominational barriers which remains my code of conduct to this day.
Long live NIFES!

It was one day during my pre-degree program. It was kind of an uneasy period in time because JAMB exams were very close, so they weren’t many persons around in the science class that day (and it seemed the lecturers too got the memo).
I can still remember, it was around 11a.m, a dark fine looking young man in long-sleeved shirt walked into the science class; he introduced himself as Joseph. As he spoke (seemingly nervous❤️), he pointed behind him to the wall, and a sheet of yellow cardboard paper, which had always been there, but which I only majorly admired because of the (very) fine calligraphy. He said it is NIFES, those he came to represent that had that… The whole class (as usual) was not paying much attention, but somehow I was; I don’t remember him preaching so much, but he majorly talked about the then “Year 1 orientation”, and invited us, even though we hadn’t really gotten into the university proper.
I had a serious prompting to follow him outside, and immediately I just passed and greeted him, he stopped me and asked for a minute of my time- it was just like he was waiting for me to come out. He invited me specially, got my number and name, and we went different ways.
Truth? I didn’t want to go, I had already made up my mind I wouldn’t join any fellowship in school, but they kept calling me…, I forgot the many names but they all identified as “NIFES”. I became restless, and one day I had to go from the library, and late too.
It was IBS, and the topic was “Faith”. The fact that a pre-degree student was in a gather ing of University students was taunting for me, and being so shy as a terrible addition, I couldn’t look up; then the next thing I knew was the facilitator beckoning on “the fine girl on green” to please contribute…. That was more than 6 years ago.
I bless God for NIFES, and I pray that God will go into the years to keep training our brethren to come, upcoming leaders at all levels, as they become associates.
In addy to NIFES🥧🍾🥂
…building tomorrow’s leaders today🌹.

NIFES My Testimony! NIFES exposed my leadership potentials. It moved from timidity to boldness; and from low knowledge to growing knowledge. Responsibilities emerged, from being a branch Prayer Secretary to Zonal Prayer Secretary. NIFES brightened my life and brought me into deeper relationship with God and relationships with wonderful brethren. I got contact with my wife, courtesy of NIFES! No regrets! Glory to Jesus!

My journey with Nifes began over twenty years ago 1997 when I gained admission to study Law at the University of Abuja mini campus Gwagwalada. Invited by my amazing roommate, an amazon who was also a 300 level law student back then, I honestly had no intention to join a fellowship but attended simply out of admiration for her. One fellowship meeting and I knew deep down in me Nifes was a place to belong. Nifes became my family and my spiritual alma mater.
My leadership abilities today were shaped as a treasurer, zonal sister’s leader in Nifes. Over the years I’ve had to revert back to the experience gained and leadership skills acquired as a Nifes excecutive on campus in solving challenges on human management as well as time management .
Above all Nifes nutured my spiritual growth thru sound teaching of the word thru bible study, discipleship training programs, Easter/ National conferences. I foundly remember the rural rugged village evangelism programs. It was a first hand learning experience on evangelism.( It’s my prayer that notwithstanding the insecurity problems evident in our country Nifes will continue to see ways of implementing new innovative ways of reaching out to souls in our rural areas).
Still very much grateful to God for my roomate who invited me to Nifes. Loads of love from here to all members of my Nifes family. 😘🥰🥰
Let the church(Nifes) keep marching on and the gates of hell shall not prevail in Jesus name. Amen.💪🙏
